Hanlin

Hanlin is an e-reader, a device for reading electronic books (e-books).

The Hanlin v3 has a 6-inch (15 cm), 4-level greyscale electrophoretic display (E Ink material) with a resolution of 600 × 800 pixels (167 ppi) and the v3+ has a 16-level greyscale display. “The Hanlin v5 Mini has a 5-inch (15 cm), 8-level greyscale electrophoretic display (E Ink material) with a resolution of 600 × 800 pixels (200 ppi). The device runs on linux.

JinKe Electronic Company

The device is manufactured by JinKe Electronic Company of China. It has been rebranded by various OEMs and sold under the names Bebook, Walkbook, lBook, Iscriptum, Papyre, EZ Reader, Koobe and ECO Reader.

The Hanlin eReader works best with EPUB, RTF, FB2 and Mobipocket documents due to their simplicity, interoperability and low CPU processing requirements. These files also have more zoom levels and more options such as search, landscape mode and text-to-speech than PDF, DOC, HTML or TXT.

JinKe’s proprietary WOLF format (file extension .wol) is also used.
